Twelve members of the group explored Architectural Artifacts on December 5. What an amazing place for photography! It was first brought to my attention by group member Anna Trivino, who suggested we plan a meetup here. I saw some of Anna's images from her prior forays here and I was immediately intrigued. Apparently, as it turned out, I was the misinformed one; I had never known of the existence of this place, but when I put it out to the group, several members had either been here or knew of it and had always wanted to come.
What an interesting shoot this turned out to be! Salvaged artifacts from all over were here, just waiting to be photographed. From ornate ceramic tiles to hairless mannequins begging for wigs, to old, green seltzer bottles complete with some mystery fluid, it was all there. Our members came up with some very interesting images. It was fascinating to see how the same subject could be interpreted in so many ways by each photographer. Definitely check out our works on flickr at www.flickr.com/groups/ne_illinois_meetup/
Now since we've posted those images, I have heard from several others who missed this shoot that they wish they could've made it. One even suggested we do another meetup there. I couldn't agree more. Next month, for those of you who missed the first meetup - and for those of you who wish to return - we'll plan to do another meetup at Architectural Artifacts. Stay tuned for the date!
Architectural Artifacts is located at 4325 North Ravenswood in Chicago. Hours are 10am to 5pm, 7 days a week.
